“Hedda, if you donΒ΄t”… what? Pity he broke off. I was wondering how what he would threaten to do to her if she didnΒ΄t come back to be raped and murdered…
“You know that feeling you get when you’re standing in a high place… sudden urge to jump?… I don’t have it.” Capt. Jack Sparrow
Well its a better alternative and theres the (very) remote chance of surviving. At certain heights, regardless of how you dive, its like slamming into concrete. Then again suicide is considered a sin…
On one hand there’s the certain death if she doesn’t jump — on the other hand if she does jump to avoid participating in a pagan ritual, there is the argument it’s martyrdom not suicide.
Hey, long time lurker here, loving that final panel! Very nicely done. Also, love the idea of ‘Preacher’s Pulpit’ I love how you include those details that add that extra something… very awesome!
Thank you so much, Tazar! I’m glad you’re enjoying the comic, and the little extra tidbits of info and inspiration I throw in. I know I like learning stuff like that about other artists, so I share it when I have something to say. :3
now that’s a view and a half. and a long way down. it’s not the fall that kills you, it’s the sudden stop at the end of the ride. this would be a good time for the reappearence of a very long snakey demi god. snatching her out of the air would be really cool, and freak out beardy and stubbles! lol!
As much as I do love this page, I feel there’s too significant a difference in the distance between Hedda and Stubbles & Beardy in the last two panels.
It’s a minor thing, I know, but it takes me out of the scene for a second.
I stumbled upon your comic fairly recently and I have to say that I’m quite taken with it. As one who has roots in Norway (I’m a descendant of Erik the Red, and by that means Leif Erikson as well :P), I’ve spent much time studying Norse folklore and mythology. I’ve learned much from this comic that I’ve yet to research myself, so I’d like to thank you for making this wonderful comic. Please keep up the good work. π
WHAT you are? Really? Wow! That’s so cool. D: I hope I don’t botch the myths or the history too badly, though I’ve tried to do a good bit of research. The problem is just remembering everything I read… Haha, either way, thank you so much for reading! I’m glad you like the comic, and I hope you’ll continue to stop by! π
Freckled Face: “Dang Hedda! All this running and stumbling around in the dark and all you wanted was to take a late night dip in the lake! Girl, if you just wanted to take a bath, you should have just say so….I mean we could have warmed up some bath water in a cauldron big enough to accommodate you during the funeral rights!”
I’ve been following this for quite some time now, and have to say that I absolutely love it.
I really love this page especially. The last panel is just fantastic.
Also, I must say, I love beardy… and I kinda want to punch his brother in the face. Then again, who doesn’t? XD
This location is actually loosely based on Preikestolen, which is in Lysefjord (according to Wikipedia). It’s not any one specific place, I take inspiration from all over. I looked up Geirangerfjord though, and it’s beautiful. Then again, almost everything in Norway is beautiful. :3
I can’t remember if it’s true or not, but I once read that Berserkrs leapt off cliffs, into the sea, and were taken to Valhalla. The cliffs were called ‘Halls of Odin’. Now I’m rather curious if maybe they were turned into ‘pulpits’ later on, when the Christians arrived… (this has little to do with your beautiful page, sorry, just musing).
I’m kind of curious as to why Beardy MacBeard gasped. I would suspect he’d know there was a MASSIVE cliff over a fjord nearby -it’s the kind of thing one doesn’t easily forget, really- Did he see something?
Also, I have to say I really loved the pics of Coal this week. EGAD. HE SMIRKS. MY LIFE IS COMPLETE.
Oh wow, I can’t remember if I read that bout berserkers. That’s interesting if it’s true. And Beardy is gasping more at how close Hedda is to the edge than the fact they’ve suddenly come across the cliff. XD Thanks!

Hahaha, yeah it’s hard to do anything worse than that.

I have had that weird feeling, I hate it. D: Freaks me out! I try to stay either far from such edges or grip the railings if I do anything like that.

That’s a beautiful scene. o_o And the cliff itself is awesome too. Like literally awe-some.
Thanks! Yeah, it’s awesome the way the awesome was intended to be used. π

Haha! That would be pretty neat! Definitely freak out those brothers too.
Don’t jump……you have so much to live for…………………..wait your a slave living in squalor………..scratch that.
Hedda actually kind of had it pretty good, but yeah, she’d still be killed anyway. D:

Oh, dang, you’re right! I hadn’t noticed that. The brothers should be a little closer to her. I’ll have to fix that in my second pass. Thanks!

I’ll be sticking by until the end, I promise you that. π
Oh, Hedda. *hug*
Still, making a choice is better than having your fate thrust upon you with no will of your own.
Hahahaha, this comment makes me laugh for secret reasons.
Oh dear, I think you just laughed my DM laugh…
Also: why is it not Thursday yet! This is totally a cliff hanger. (Pun intended, but probably not that funny…)
Beautiful moonlight. I like how Hedda’s white shift glows in the light.
Thank you! I was worried it might be too dark, but maybe that’s my monitor. XD

Hahaha! Actually she probably would have been given a bath and a new dress, etc., but I decided to skip that. :3

Aw, thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoy it. :3 And I think your sentiments are shared by all! Who doesn’t wanna punch Stubbles in the face?
Is the fjord based on Geirangerfjord?

So Hedda is one of the first jumpers? π
